Plays of 2009:
I played Acaste in The Misanthrope at PS-122 this summer as part of the undergroundzero festival; it has been given the 2009 undergroundzero Audience Prize, somewhat belatedly. It was directed by Anna Brenner, an MFA Director at Columbia University. At PS-122, I also performed in Eliza Bent’s She of the Voice, a song-and-dance adaptation of a Hari Kunzru short story.
In Brains, I was part of a four-person ensemble that performed at the Looking Glass Theater in May. This very funny dance-theater piece, written by Anna Moench & choreographed by Meredith Steinberg, started at Spoke the Hub in Brooklyn earlier this year, winning the Winter Follies audience award. A smaller version of Brains went up at Dixon Place and the Oracle Theater.
In October, I played Andrey in Chekhov’s The Three Sisters, translated by Carol Rocamora, and directed by Anna Brenner. It was a second-year project supervised by Brian Kulick and Anne Bogart; it was well-received and the other actors were inspiring, lovely people whom I miss! In March, I was in Steven Gauntley’s Clocked, also directed by Anna Brenner at Columbia.
Yi Zhao lit (beautifully) a lot of plays I was in this year.
Auditioning:
In September, I got a callback on my first ever commercial audition!
Training:
I’m still happily in the two-year program at the William Esper Studio, studying the Meisner method with Deb Jackel. Aside from that, I studied Alexander Technique with Emily Whyte and took singing lessons from Kim Stern.
